The TowneLaker and Sixes Living Magazine are pleased to announce Kara Kiefer as the new Editor of the publications. Kara has been on staff as the Assistant Editor since 2002. She graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Communications and is excited about her new role. "I'm thrilled to be part of such a community-minded publication, and I look forward to being the Editor," she said. Kara is married to Mike and has two sons, Brandon, age 13 and Garrett, age 9.

JSL Gala Raises Funds
for Charities

The Junior Service League (JSL) of Woodstock recently hosted its third Annual Spring Gala and Benefit Auction. The event raised more than $12,000 and were distributed to the following charities: Challenger Baseball, Grace to the Nations, the HOPE Center, Meals on Wheels, MUST Ministries and Les Marmitons.

Annual Woodstock FreedomRun Set for July

The 9th Annual Bank of Woodstock, Woodstock Freedom Run will be held on Tuesday, July 4th at 7:30 a.m. Runners of various ages and abilities will take their marks at the intersection of Main Street and Towne Lake Parkway/Arnold Mill Road. Participants can run or walk the 5K flat, fast and shaded course that goes up and down Main Street. The race is sanctioned through the Georgia Run and See, Grand Prix series allowing a prize purse, which attracts elite runners.

Tony Crawford, pastor at Dayspring Church, started this race nine years ago when he read that 20,000 potential participants were turned away from the Peachtree Road Race. He wanted to offer an alternative. The alternative is a family-friendly race, which includes something for everyone 1 elite runners to children. The race kicks off a day of fun and family festivities in downtown Woodstock for the 4th of July celebration.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the HOPE Center, a crisis pregnancy center. All registered participants will receive a high quality race T-shirt. Registration forms are available from the Bank of Woodstock, located at 8770 Main Street and also on page 43 of this issue.

Four friends, Harold Dupois, Steve McGuinness, David Schauss and Einar Rivera, decided to embark on the adventure of a life time. In honor of Harold's, Steve's, and David's 43rd birthdays, the men decided to climb to the the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa, and they took The TowneLaker along for the ride. The men trained for more than two years. They began their journey on February 20 and encountered snow, ice, cold temperatures and thin air, but their goal remained foremost in their minds. On Saturday, February 26, the men accomplished their goal and reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The TowneLaker was displayed in their summit photo. The three men's birthdays were all celebrated along the journey 1 Harold and David on February 25 and Steve on February 26. Harold, Steve and Einar are all residents of Towne Lake.

Scout Troop Participates
in SouperBowl of Caring

Boy Scout Troop 994 recently participated in the 2005 SouperBowl of Caring at Hillside United Methodist Church. The SouperBowl is a nationwide program designed to inspire youth to help fight hunger and poverty with 100% of the local collections donated to area food pantries, soup kitchens or other charities. Troop 994 collected $716 and chose MUST Ministries as their recipient.
