Karen
Mills -Southern Fried Chick
Karen
Mills is originally from the small town of Cleveland, Tennessee. She started
in comedy 11 years ago while living in Atlanta. Karen took a few acting
classes and had done some community theater, but she was always drawn
to stand-up comedy. She got her start at the Punchline and was eventually
moved up the ranks as opener, feature and now headliner. She also has
performed throughout the United States at top clubs including The Stardome,
The Comedy Catch and The Improv. Karen is currently touring with Leanne
Morgan and Etta May on the "Southern Fried Chicks" tour, where old, new
and deep South come together.
In
addition to being a comedienne, Karen also is an "animal avenger" as her
friends call her. "I am always rescuing animals, and they don't even have
to be cute!" she said. "I help possums cross the road, and every time
I see a herd of cattle, I yell, 'move to India!'" In all seriousness,
animals always have been a presence in Karen's life, and she always had
traveled with her Cocker Spaniel, Kelly until she passed away three years
ago. She currently has two cats, Skyy and Callie and a dog named Chloe,
and all of them are rescues. "Chloe goes to doggie care, and she loves
it. She's really doing great; she's reading at a 3rd grade level, and
her friend Paco (the Chihuahua) is teaching her Spanish," Karen said.
With
Karen's love of animals, having her perform at the Fur Ball is a natural
fit. "I want to do anything I can to contribute to the betterment of animals
and help control the pet population," commented Karen. Animals are Karen's
passion, and she is looking forward to an evening of fun and giving a
night of laughter to such a worthy cause.

The hottest ticket in town is only
weeks away. It involves an elegant evening of food, entertainment
and fun, all while celebrating the joy our furry friends bring into
our lives. This event couldn't be anything other than the second
annual Fur Ball, which will be held on Saturday, June 11 at the
historic Canton Theatre.
Nationally touring comedienne Karen Mills of the
Southern Fried Chick Tour will be the featured performer for the
event. The popular local blue grass group Toonigh will be performing
as well. When you consider one unaltered cat and her unaltered offspring
can produce 420,000 cats, and one unaltered dog and her unaltered
offspring can produce 67,000 dogs, the number of potentially unwanted
animals is staggering! In metropolitan Atlanta alone, more than
100,000 healthy, adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are
euthanized each year because there simply are not enough homes.
Nationwide, the number is estimated to be over four million!
A big part of the solution is the spaying and neutering
of all pets that aren't bred by professional breeders. That's where
the Fur Ball comes in 1 part of the proceeds will benefit low cost
and free spay and neuter programs. Additionally, funds will go toward
orphan pet adoptions/fosters and programs to help end needless euthanasia,
neglect and cruelty to animals.
The Fur Ball is sponsored by People4Pets, Inc.,
a non-profit corporation which was started in 2004 as an animal
welfare resource group, whose goal
