Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority Programs

Basketball Shooting Clinic

A Basketball Shooting Clinic will be held on Saturday, August 13 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. for boys and from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. for girls. The cost is $25, and it is for grades 9 - 12. It will take place at the Recreation Center, and the instructor is John Miszuk. John is a former college and professional player and coach and will share his years of experience with participants and provide participants with the right tools to make that next big step. His teaching techniques and practice regimen will explain the importance of his "Form Philosophy" in such a simple manner that improvement is certain. Beginning Ballroom Dancing

Beginning Ballroom Dancing takes place at the Recreation Center from September 12 through October 17 on Mondays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. for beginners and from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. for intermediate students. The cost is $45, and the class is for ages 11 and up. The instructor is Doris Petit Norton. Discover the wonderful world of Ballroom Dancing as a beginner. You will have fun learning the Foxtrot, Waltz, Jitterbug, Cha-Cha and more. This is a beginning class, so everyone is welcome with or without previous experience.

Belly Dancing

Belly Dancing takes place monthly beginning in September on Thursdays from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. The cost is $55 per month, and the class is for ages 12 and up. Janice Maxwell is the instructor. Add some fun and flexibility to your workout routine with this hypnotic dance form. This class is continuous, covering 25 moves, and is a solid framework for any belly dance style. Make It and Shake It

Make It and Shake It meets monthly at the Activities Center off of Rope Mill Road on Mondays from 3 - 4 p.m. The cost is $40 per month, and the instructor is Kelly Stevens. The class exposes children to arts and crafts, exercise, games and socializing with friends. The first half of the class will be dedicated to making a craft. Young Rembrandts
Cartoon Drawing Classes

The class meets monthly on Tuesdays from 4:45 - 5:40 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center. It is for children ages 6 - 12, and the cost is $38 per month. Children will enjoy creating silly characters, funny expressions and drawing sequences that tell jokes. Young Rembrandts' innovative step-by-step drawing method with light-hearted subject matters will engage children, their sense of humor and their vivid imaginations. All materials will be provided and giggles are guaranteed.

Young Rembrandts Elementary Drawing Class

The class meets monthly on Tuesdays from 3:45 - 4:40 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:45 - 11:40 a.m. at the Recreation Center. It is for children ages 6 - 12, and the cost is $38 per month. Young Rembrandts' innovative step-by-step drawing method can teach any child how to draw, regardless of artistic ability, giving them skills to express their creativity that will last a lifetime. All materials are provided. A new subject matter will be presented every week ranging from animals, landscapes, still lives and even art history. The philosophy is to give children a very positive, nurturing environment as we teach fundamental drawing techniques.

Young Rembrandts Pre-school Drawing Class

The class meets monthly on Tuesdays from 3 - 3:45 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 - 10:45 a.m. at the Recreation Center. It is for children ages 3½ - 5, and the cost is $38 per month. Young Rembrandts provides a positive, nurturing environment for your child. Each week all new lessons will be drawn. The class will concentrate on the skills of drawing and coloring, but also will work on developing fine motor skills, focusing, listening, staying on task, spatial organization and patience. All materials will be provided.
