My
name is Russ the Bus,I'm here to talk about bus safety,
so please take the time,Sit back and read and enjoy my little rhyme.
It's
time to go to school and it's time to ride the bus.
I'm going to give you the rules so don't go and fuss,
The way to stay cool is to follow the rules.
Keeping you safe on your way to and from school
Leave
the house with time to spare,
Five steps from the curb keeps you in good care.
The
bus driver is the boss. He's the captain of the team,
Stay in your seat, be polite and don't scream.
If
you can't see the driver, he can't see you.
Cross with care and look both ways twice.
This you can be sure is excellent advice
Danger
zones are in the front, behind and side.
Don't play in the zones. The rules you must abide!
Be
smart and stay safe - it's the only way to be.
Making the bus fun to ride for you and me!
Reminder
to Automobile Drivers:
Drive
slowly when you encounter a bus loading or unloading school children.
Children can be unpredictable and quick in their actions. It's the responsibility
of the driver of an automobile to keep an eye on them and react appropriately.
Watch
for children playing and gathering near school bus stops.
Be
alert. Children arriving late for the bus may dart into traffic without
looking.
Be
aware and learn of the flashing light system bus drivers use to alert
motorists.
Yellow
flashing lights - means the bus is preparing to stop and load or unload
children. Motorists need to slow down and prepare to stop.
Red
Flashing lights and extended STOP arm - means the bus has stopped
to allow children to load or unload. Motorists must treat this as a STOP
sign and come to a complete stop a safe distance from the bus. The only
exception to this is when the road is divided by a median. Cars on the
opposite side of the road do not need to stop when the bus is on the other
side of a median.
