Here’s a fact that doesn’t surprise me: According to the National Restaurant Association, Mother’s Day is now the most popular day to dine out. I have fallen into that statistic once or twice but haven’t had the best of luck. Brunch reservations have been “lost” one year and “cancelled” another. A visit to a local “Crab Shack” resulted in a multi-hour wait, complete with cranky and whining children, and last year, our spontaneous dinner out had to be cancelled due to one child forgetting he had a major project due in the morning. Oh well… so dining out for Mother’s Day doesn’t go well in the Kiefer household. However, I’m always sweetly remembered, never have to cook, clean or do laundry on “my day,” which, by the way, is May 11. Be sure to read about our very special Around Town/The TowneLaker Mother of the Year Leanne Guarnieri.

WHATS NEW?

You may notice that the magazine seems a bit more “colorful” this month. That’s because we have gone to 100 percent color pages! We hope you enjoy our new look!

Slapshots Sports Bar and Grille is under new ownership and soon, a new name! They will become Live at 575. The location still will offer live music on weekends, Poker night and a variety of menu options. For more information and schedule of events, please visit www.liveat575.com or call (770) 924-5855.

Madison Pointe, located at Towne Lake Parkway and I-575 has had several businesses open lately. Roly Poly offers classic rollup sandwiches, chicken and tuna salad, gourmet soups and salads. They can be reached at (770) 928-7659. Also open is Peek-ABelly, a 3D sonogram facility for expectant mothers. They can be reached at (770) 924-2024. In May, Kayson’s Grille, Zucca Bar & Pizzeria and Lee Nail Spa are scheduled to open.

If you’ve ever driven on Towne Lake Parkway, especially during rush hour, you’ve probably seen Keith Hollar, an employee of Tuscany Italian Grill, playing his “guitar,” encouraging drivers to visit Tuscany. Keith will be featured on the HGTV show, Deserving Design, a show that rewards those who give of themselves with a design makeover. The episode with Keith will air on May 4 at 1:30 p.m. You can see a write up of the episode at www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows. What a great reward for a great young man!

The Center for Yoga recently welcomed Beth Passehl. She will teach a “women’s only” class for those entering peri-menopause or menopause. For more information, please visit www. thecenterforyoga.com.

The Tavern, an 8,000 square foot sports bar with a full lunch and dinner menu, recently opened at 5735 Bells Ferry Road. They will have live music every Friday and Saturday night. For more information, please call (770) 517-0800.

WHATS CLOSED?

GA Fitness recently closed its facility, but all memberships are being honored at The Club of Towne Lake. For more information, please call The Club at (678) 888-0500.

Merle Norman formerly located in the Colonnade shopping center on Towne Lake Parkway, has closed that location. Due to a disconnected phone, we were unable to determine if the owner closed permanently or moved to a different location.

COMMUNITY YARD SALES

On May 2 and 3, Eagle Watch and Towne Lake Hills South will both hold community garage sales. Eagle Watch’s will be held from 8 a.m. — 3 p.m., and Towne Lake Hills South’s will be held from 8 a.m. — 2 p.m., both days.

BOATERS AND FISHERMEN REJOICE!

Lake Allatoona has been restored to a full pool thanks to the rough weather we have endured this spring!
