Cherokee County's Senator Chip Rogers

Six years ago Chip Rogers walked door to door across every neighborhood in the 15th House District. He promised voters that, if elected, he would work as hard as possible representing our values in state government. Two years later Chip did it again. Walking every neighborhood in the 21st Senate District, committing to hard work and results.

Senator Chip Rogers has earned the nickname “Georgia’s Senate Workhorse”. Never afraid of any issue, big or small, Senator Rogers has garnered respect on both sides of the political aisle.

Transparency in Government Act

— The Georgia Public Policy Foundation calls it “the most significant long-term reform” to emerge from the 2008 session. The measure, authored by Senator Rogers, requires state expenditures be placed on a searchable Website so taxpayers can see how their money is spent. Similar transparency laws in other states have saved taxpayers millions of dollars through eliminating waste and fraud.

A Leader for Education

Endorsed by the Georgia Association of Educators Georgia’s largest teacher organization has endorsed Senator Chip Rogers for re-election. The Georgia Association of Educators includes more than 40,000 members across the state. GAE President Jeff Hubbard said, “Our endorsement is based on GAE’s commitment to improving Georgia’s public schools.”

Winner of Educators’ Top Legislative Award — Senator Rogers was awarded the “Friend of Education” award given to only one legislator each year by GAE.

Endorsed by Cobb Association of Educators

Grade Integrity Act — Senator Rogers wrote the law allowing teachers to give the actual grade earned by students in the classroom. Under this law, teachers are no longer forced to change a grade without just cause.

Led the Fight for More State Funding of Cherokee & Cobb Schools — Senator Rogers teamed up with the Cherokee Legislative Delegation to advocate a change in funding to bring millions of additional dollars to Cherokee and Cobb Schools.

Local Control — Senator Rogers cosponsored School Flexibility Act, to allow more local control of Georgia schools.

A Leader for Stopping Identity Theft

Credit Freeze Law — Representative Calvin Hill and Senator Rogers teamed up to pass Georgia’s first credit freeze law. WSB radio personality Clark Howard personally lobbied for this bill and calls it one of the nation’s best credit freeze laws.

Identity Theft Law — Senator Rogers single-handedly wrote Georgia’s tough new identity theft law to help stop the fastest growing crime in the nation.

Identity Protection — Senator Rogers created the law to prohibit the public posting of any person’s social security number without their approval.

Removal of Fingerprint Requirement — Senator Rogers and Representative Barry Loudermilk joined efforts to remove the fi ngerprint requirement for Georgia drivers licenses and destroy all previous fi ngerprint records. No drivers license fi ngerprint had ever been used to solve a crime in Georgia, but the database of fi ngerprints created a serious identity theft target to the detriment of Georgians.

A Leader for Common — Sense Values

Dog Fighting Law — Senator Rogers’ four-year effort to pass a Dog Fighting Bill resulted in one of the nation’s strongest laws against the torture of pets. Georgia is now ranked as having the third strongest dog-fighting law in America.

Immigration Enforcement Senator Rogers authored the nation’s strongest state law requiring that federal immigration laws be enforced at the state level. The measure was so successful that it has become the “model bill” for states all across America.

Second Amendment Protection Representative Tim Bearden and Senator Rogers passed historic legislation allowing fi rearms license holders greater freedom to exercise Second Amendment rights. Some have called this the best self-protection legislation to pass the General Assembly in decades.

Protecting Swimming Pools and Swim Teams — Senator Rogers wrote the new law preventing the state from indiscriminately shutting down swimming pools without scientific evidence and data.

Sales Tax Holiday — Senator Rogers and Representative Lynn Smith passed the Sales Tax Holiday. Two weekends a year, purchases of school items, clothing, computer equipment, and energy effi cient appliances are sales-tax free.

Georgia Manufacturing Jobs Senator Rogers led the way to protect manufacturing. He sponsored and passed bills in the Senate for $22 million in manufacturing tax incentives to create high-paying manufacturing jobs.

Property Tax Protection — Senator Rogers passed through the Senate, a constitutional amendment limiting the annual increase in property assessments to help protect property owners from being taxed off their land.

Spending Reform — Senator Rogers passed the Taxpayer Protection Act constitutional amendment through the Senate to limit the growth of state spending.

Motor Fuel Tax Cut — Senator Rogers and Representative Martin Scott passed a law eliminating the sales tax on motor fuel used in public transportation.

The last six years have also seen Senator Rogers set a new standard for communicating with constituents. As a State Representative and State Senator, Chip Rogers has hosted more than 100 “town hall” meetings. It is believed to be the most “town hall” meetings hosted by any elected official in Georgia.

Cherokee County has a real leader in Senator Chip Rogers.
